The Naitasiri Rugby Union has secured a $10,000 sponsorship from FEXCO Pacific for their first 7s tournament to be held at Ratu Cakobau Park in December.

President and former Fiji international, Ratu Ilaitia Tuisese said this was a milestone for NRU as they looked to better run their affiliates.

“The whole reason for this sevens tournament is to generate money that we can then distribute to our affiliates for the better running of these zones,” Tuisese said.

“We have always had this idea in the pipeline but getting a company to sponsor it was hard. We approached FEXCO Pacific and the response we received from them was good from the word go. This is a two year sponsorship deal and we are really grateful to FEXCO for coming on board”

The FEXCO Pacific NRU 7s tournament is expected to field a total of 64 teams with a $200 registration.

The winner of the tournament walks away with $4000 and the runner up $1000.

“Any tournament can be used by national selectors to identify local players for the IRB 7s Series and we hope that through our initiative and the inaugural tournament, we can do our part in creating a base for selection,” Tuisese said.

The tournament kicks off on December 3-4 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
