The Public Service Commission is currently working on a Scarce Skills Retention Policy for Civil Service.
Public Service Commission permanent secretary Mr Parmesh Chand said over the past years government has lost considerable qualified and skilled personnel to private and regional organization’s, adding that the absence of qualified staff in Ministries affects Government’s ability to deliver the required services to the public.
Work classifications that Government considers as scarce skills are in the areas of Doctors, Engineers, Meteorologists, Veterinary Officers, Town Planners, Marine Scientists, Agricultural Scientists, and Geologists etc.

It is with deep regret I advise the passing away of Mr. Deo Rattan, a resident of Hayward.
Late Mr. Deo Rattan & family lived in Hayward on Menon Ave for the last 7 yrs. He was a bhajania and his wife is a singer. You may have heard her at weddings. Both also sang Kirtans.
Late Mr Deo leaves behind his wife Kusum L Rattan and 2 boys.
Funeral service is at the Chapel of the Chimes on Monday 6/20 from 12.30- 2.30pm

Squatters of Lakena Hill, Manoca, Nausori will receive official documents of their land leases from the Minister for Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment, Colonel Sameula Saumatua on Thursday, June 16.
Project officer for Lakena Hill, Mr Peni Bakewa said the land was a crown residential lot where a total of 147 lessees will be given 99 years of lease.

“Government has taken the initiative to provide families with decent housing and Lakena is one of them,” he said.

The residents will be provided with sewer lines in the future …

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces acknowledged the hard work and diligence of 80 officers at a military parade held at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua today.
Prime Minister Commodore Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama handed out the leadership and service medals to the 80 officers.
“We thank those who are awarded their medals this morning. We hope to give out all pending medals to those of you who deserve to receive your medals,” Commodore Bainimarama said.
Three categories of medals were awarded:

The following decision was taken by Cabinet at its 10th scheduled meeting held this morning Cabinet has approved the University Of Fiji Decree 2011.
The Decree provides the legal framework for the establishment of the University.
Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Minister for Education National Heritage Culture and Arts, and Youth and Sports, Mr Filipe Bole.
The University of Fiji (UniFiji) commenced operation as a higher education institution in February 2005, and is in its seventh year of operation.
